EMB Charger and MPPT Merging in Micro-Satellites

B. Abdi, S. M. M. Mirtalaei, and R. Ghasemi

Abstract—Life time of chemical batteries is one off main problems in low earth orbit satellites due to their fast charge and discharge. Electro-mechanical batteries have some important advantage in comparison with chemical one, but they need a 3 phase, variable voltage and frequency, inverter. The method of maximum power point tracking in satellites utilizing electro-mechanical energy storage systems are proposed in this paper. It will be shown that efficiency and reliability is increased in the proposed manner.

Index Terms—MPPT, energy storage, electromechanical, battery.
